Stories Underfoot invites readers to follow in the footsteps of some of the Isle of Wight’s most remarkable LGBTQ+ figures, including Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Charlotte Mew, Algernon Swinburne and the irrepressible Ferguson’s Gang. Inspired by StoneCrabs Theatre’s acclaimed series of performed heritage walks, this richly illustrated collection brings together the original scripts alongside reflections from the writers, actors and director, as well as photographs, essays and archive material exploring the creative process behind the project.
Part theatre, part local history and part literary companion, Stories Underfoot reveals how familiar streets, coastlines and buildings can become stages upon which overlooked lives are reimagined. It offers a new way of seeing the landscape beneath your feet—and the lives that helped shape it.
Stories Underfoot is inspired by StoneCrabs Theatre's performed heritage walks.
